Hong Kong also known as the City of Life, is one of China’s special administrative region, the other being Macau. In going to Hong Kong, you may want to avoid its peak seasons such as the Canton Fair, the Chinese New Year and the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens which happens in October, February and March respectively. During the rest of the year, tickets to Hong Kong are relatively expensive as it is one of the most visited places in the world.
Though airfare rates in going to Hong Kong is pricey, getting around the city is quite cheap because of its various public transport systems such as the Mass Transit Railways or MTRs and the buses.
For cheap hotels in Hong Kong, a wide selection of places could be opted for in accordance to your budget. You could go for the hotels that would either allow you to see the harbour view, such as the Harbour Grand Kowloon hotel or those that would let you see the city lights.
If you are travelling on a budget, you may consider checking in at Hong Kong guest houses which have air conditioned rooms and individual shower and toilet. Many of these are located in Kowloon, especially in the Chungking Mansions. For the young travellers that have really lean budgets, they could also opt for the Hong Kong Youth Hostels which are mostly found in the New Territories area which means they are not located within the city but offers a nice view of the country side and is near the beautiful hiking trails of Hong Kong.
Hong Kong offers a wide selection of tourist attractions and probably the top place in each travellers’ “to visit” list is the Hong Kong Disney Land which is located in the Lantau Island. The Disney Land is a must see because it is a fusion of the old and future Chinese Culture. If you are bringing your kids with you, it would also be good to give the Ocean Park a visit as it is one of the best marine sanctuary in the world. China also has the third largest harbour in the world, Victoria Harbor, which is located in between the Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula.
If you just want to experience or see what Hong Kong is like at night and why it is known as the City of Life, then the best place to do that is at the Victoria Peak. These are just some of the places that Hong Kong offers the travellers and it is up to each traveller to discover some of the other places that the city has to offer.
